Learn Italian by the lakeside

Language and culture on Lake Como

Every summer we organise a one or two week language course in the lakeside village of Gravedona, on the upper reaches of the Northern Italian Lake Como. The aim is to improve your active command of the Italian language in every day life through conversational exercises. 12 hours of tuition, guided excursions and walks in the area, meeting and talking to the locals.

In keeping with our environmental commitment, we make use of public transport wherever possible.

Accommodation is either in a friendly small lakeside hotel (most rooms with a view of the lake, private garden and beach, terrace on the lake) or in B&B-style in the homes of Italian families.

Your teacher and companion is Antonella Piazza. She has been brought up in the neighbouring village of Dongo, and therefore knows the area very well.

Definitely an enjoyable way of brushing up your language skills, Lake Como to one side, high mountain tops to the other.

Holidays without tuition, but including guided tours can be arranged upon request.

Next courses are scheduled for

5. to 12. July 1997

12. to 19. July 1997

The hotel in Gravedona

You can see the hotel in the right hand corner, at the bottom of the picture at the head of the peninsula. It is set in a quiet location with private garden, terrace and beach. Most rooms offer views of the lake. The centre of the village is only five minutes on foot.

Gravedona is one of the most important places on the upper lake (Alto Lario) of Lake Como, both from an artistic and historical point of view. E.g. the Church of Santa Maria del Tiglio dates back to the 12th Century, when it was built on top of a previous building of the 5th Century.

From Gravedona, apart from the regional bus network, there are regular connections by hydrofoils and traditional steamers to Como, Varenna, Menaggio and Bellagio. Excursions to Switzerland (Lugano, Locarno, St. Moritz) by postal bus are also possible.
